The questions we get asked most when people are choosing between the eight XCAM models.
Which XCAM has the longest battery life?
It depends on how you use it. For continuous recording the XCAM Max lasts longest — its 1600mAh battery runs about 8 hours and recharges in roughly an hour. The XCAM Ultra and XCAM Cube also reach about 8 hours. But if the camera only needs to wake on movement, the XCAM Nano goes furthest: its PIR standby mode stretches to 45 days between charges.
Which XCAM is the smallest?
The XCAM Air is the lightest at 31.5g, and the XCAM Cube is the thinnest at just 18mm deep. The XCAM Nano is the most genuinely discreet in use — at 35 × 35 × 40mm it is smaller than a golf ball and sits unnoticed on a shelf.
Do Lexuma XCAM cameras need a subscription?
No. Every XCAM records locally to a microSD card, from 32GB on the Nano up to 512GB on the 4K models. There is no monthly fee and no cloud plan required to record or play back footage.
Which XCAM records in 4K?
Three models: the XCAM Cube (4K/30fps security camera), the XCAM 4K and the XCAM 4K Pro (both waterproof action cameras). The XCAM Ultra records at 1296P Quad-HD, which is higher than 1080P but below 4K. The Nano, Air, Pro and Max all record 1080P Full HD.
Can XCAM cameras see in the dark?
All six XCAM security models have infrared night vision. The Nano, Cube and Air use standard IR LEDs; the Pro and Max switch automatically between colour and black-and-white IR. The XCAM Ultra uses 940nm infrared, which produces no visible red glow — so the camera does not reveal itself in a dark room. The two action cameras (XCAM 4K and 4K Pro) do not have night vision.
What is the difference between the XCAM 4K and the XCAM 4K Pro?
Both record 4K/30fps and are IP65 waterproof. The 4K Pro adds 6-axis optical image stabilisation for noticeably smoother handheld and helmet-mounted footage, and has a wider 156° field of view versus 142°. The standard XCAM 4K uses electronic stabilisation and is lighter at 43.5g.
Which XCAM works best on a crowded home WiFi network?
The XCAM Pro and XCAM Max both use WiFi 6 with Bluetooth, which pairs faster and holds a steadier live stream when many devices share the network. The other models use 2.4GHz WiFi, which has better range through walls but is more prone to congestion.
Is it legal to use a hidden security camera?
Using a camera to monitor your own home, property or business is legal in most countries. Recording people where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy — bathrooms, bedrooms you do not own, changing rooms — is not, and audio recording carries extra restrictions in many places. Rules vary by country and by state, so check what applies where you live before installing a camera.
Can an XCAM record while it is charging?
Yes. Every XCAM can run on USB power while recording, so you can use it as a permanently powered camera in one spot, or unplug it and rely on the battery when you need to move it.
Which XCAM should I buy for a nursery or baby monitor?
The XCAM Nano is the usual choice — its PIR sensor triggers on human movement rather than shadows, it has two-way audio so you can speak to the room, and the 45-day standby means you are not recharging it constantly. If you want to see the whole room at once, the XCAM Cube's 155° ultra-wide lens covers more ground.
