Welcome
Thanks for choosing the XCAM Nano
This guide takes you from unboxing to watching live on your phone in about ten minutes, then explains the settings that matter most: sleep mode, motion alerts and where your photos and videos are saved.
Before you start, you'll need
- A smartphone (iPhone or Android).
- A 2.4GHz WiFi network. The Nano does not connect to 5GHz WiFi.
- Optional: a microSD card up to 32GB, if you want the camera to record video by itself. It is not included, and you can watch live without one.
Charge it first. Plug the camera into a 5V USB charger for about 5 hours before first use. The orange light goes out when it is full.

Buttons, lights & charging
Power
| To… | Do this |
|---|---|
| Switch on | Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds. The red light comes on and the blue light starts flashing slowly. |
| Switch off | Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds. If you are recording from the app, stop the recording first (see Recording & storage). |
| Factory reset | With the camera switched on, press and hold the reset button for about 3 seconds until you hear a click. The camera restarts with its factory settings: WiFi details are cleared and the password returns to 8888. |
What the lights mean
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red on + blue flashing slowly | Hotspot mode. Ready for first setup, or not yet on your home WiFi. |
| Red on + blue on | Remote mode, connected. On your home WiFi and viewable from anywhere. |
| Lights flashing fast | Remote mode, but can't reach the network. Check the WiFi password, the distance to the router, and that the router is on. |
| Orange on | Charging. It goes out when the battery is full. |
Prefer the camera not to glow on a shelf? You can switch the indicator lights off in the live view (The live view).
Charging
- Use the USB cable supplied and a standard 5V / 1A USB charger. Do not use a charger that outputs more than 5V.
- A full charge takes about 5 hours.
- The camera keeps working while it charges, so you can leave it permanently on USB power.
- It is normal for the camera to feel warm while it is running.
Sections 3 & 4
Install the app, then make the first connection
Install iWFCam
- iPhone: search for iWFCam in the App Store.
- Android: search for iWFCam in Google Play. You can also scan the QR code on the leaflet in the box and choose "Direct download Android APK".
First connection: hotspot mode
For the first setup the camera creates its own WiFi network, and your phone joins it directly. Keep the phone within 10 metres of the camera.
- Switch the camera on (hold the power button for 3 seconds). Wait until the blue light flashes slowly.
- On your phone, open Settings → WiFi. Join the network whose name starts with BH (for example BH15039-…). It has no password.
- Your phone will warn that this network has no internet access. Choose Connect / Use anyway. This is expected, because the camera is talking to your phone directly.
- Stay on the camera's network and open iWFCam.
Join the BH… network
Section 4 · continued
Add the camera in the app
- The app normally finds the camera by itself and asks to add it. If not, tap the search (magnifier) icon at the top of the app and choose the camera from the list.
- The camera appears on the app's home screen as Online [No internet connection]. Pull down to refresh if it doesn't show straight away.
- The app suggests changing the default camera password. We recommend tapping Change and setting your own. You can also tap Skip and do it later (Night vision, mounting & password).
- If the app asks "The device is not connected to the internet, do you want to connect?", tap Cancel for now. You'll connect it to your home WiFi in the next section.
- Tap the camera picture to open the live view. You're watching the camera now.
Camera added in hotspot mode
Hotspot mode is fine on its own, for example when there is no WiFi where you are. You can watch, talk and record as long as your phone is joined to the camera's BH… network and within about 10 metres. To view from anywhere, and to use sleep mode or motion alerts, carry on to Section 5.
Section 5
Connect to your home WiFi (remote mode)
Remote mode puts the camera on your home WiFi so you can watch it from anywhere, over mobile data or any other network.
- On the app's home screen, tap the settings (⚙) icon on the camera, then Device Settings.
- Tap WiFi Config.
- Choose your home WiFi network, enter its password, and tap OK.
- The camera restarts. Go back to the app's home screen and wait about a minute.
- When the camera shows Online (without "No internet connection") and the blue light stays on, remote mode is working. You can now reconnect your phone to your normal WiFi or mobile data.
Device Settings. Your app version may differ slightly.
WiFi requirements. Most setup problems come from these three:
- 2.4GHz only. If your router combines 2.4 and 5GHz under one name, turn on its separate 2.4GHz network or ask your provider how.
- The WiFi name and password should use only letters and numbers. Names or passwords with special symbols or non-Latin characters (for example Chinese) are not supported.
- During setup, keep the camera within about 10 metres of the router.
Section 6
The live view
Simplified view. The icon order may vary.
| Control | |
|---|---|
| A | Settings for this camera |
| B | Brightness |
| C | Contrast |
| D | Indicator lights on/off |
| E | Flip the picture, for when the camera is mounted upside down |
| F | Sharpness |
| G | Night vision (infrared) on/off |
| H | Full screen |
| I | Picture quality (up to 1080p) |
| J | Sound: listen to the room |
| K | Talkback: hold to speak through the camera, release to listen |
| L | Record video to your phone |
| M | Snapshot: save a photo to your phone |
Anything you record or snap from the live view (L, M) is saved on your phone, not on the camera's microSD card.
Section 7 · Important
Sleep mode vs motion alerts: choose one
The Nano's "up to 45 days" battery figure applies to sleep mode. In sleep mode the camera dozes and only wakes when you open the app, so it cannot send motion alerts while asleep. To get alerts, turn sleep mode off, and the battery then lasts hours rather than weeks.
| Sleep mode ON | Sleep mode OFF | |
|---|---|---|
| Battery life | Weeks (up to about 45 days) | Hours of continuous use |
| Live view | Yes. It wakes when you open the app | Yes, instant |
| Motion alerts | Off | On |
| On a motion trigger | Nothing | Alert + a series of still photos saved to your phone |
How to switch
Open the camera's ⚙ → Device Settings → Sleep Mode and turn Sleep mode enabled on or off, then tap OK. There is also a quick sleep toggle on the camera card on the app's home screen.
Sleep mode only works in remote mode (on your home WiFi). In hotspot mode the camera never sleeps.
Three setups that work
| Setup | How |
|---|---|
| Check-in camera | Sleep ON, on battery. Open the app whenever you want to look. It lasts weeks between charges. |
| Alert camera | Sleep OFF, on a USB charger or power bank. You're told the moment something moves. |
| Travel camera | Sleep ON while you're away. Switch it off from the app on the days you want alerts, then switch it back on. |
Section 8
Motion alerts
What happens when motion is detected
1
Movement in the picture
Something changes in the camera's view.
2
Alert on your phone
iWFCam sends a push notification.
3
Still photos
The camera takes a series of still photos, saved to your phone by default.
A motion trigger captures still photos, not a video clip. To watch what is happening, tap the alert and open the live view. You can record video from there (The live view), or set up scheduled video recording to a microSD card (Recording & storage).
Turning motion alerts on
- Make sure the camera is in remote mode and sleep mode is off (Sleep mode vs motion alerts: choose one).
- Open ⚙ → Device Settings → Alarm Config and switch motion detection on.
- Allow notifications for iWFCam in your phone's settings, or the alerts won't appear.
Fewer false alerts
The Nano detects any change in the picture. It does not tell people apart from pets, and moving curtains, shadows, sunlight or headlights can also set it off.
- Reposition first. Keep windows, TVs, plants and pet routes out of the frame.
- Lower the sensitivity in Alarm Config, one step at a time.
- Clean the lens. Dust or a cobweb can cause night-time triggers when the infrared reflects off it.
- Use USB power for an alert camera. Every alert uses battery.
Section 9
Recording & storage
There are three ways the Nano saves what it sees, and each one saves to a different place.
| What | What you get | Where it's saved |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled recording Device Settings → SDCard Record Config |
Video | microSD card in the camera |
| Record / Snapshot buttons in the live view | Video or photo | Your phone |
| Motion trigger | A series of still photos | Your phone (by default) |
microSD card
- Supports cards up to 32GB. Cards are sold separately.
- A 32GB card holds roughly a day of continuous 1080P video.
- Insert the card into the slot on the side of the camera.
- If the camera doesn't recognise the card, format it in the app. If it still isn't recognised, try a different card.
- To play back or download recordings, use the Files tab in iWFCam.
Stop any recording in the app before you switch the camera off. Otherwise the last video file may not be saved, or may be damaged.
No subscription
The Nano records locally: to the microSD card and to your phone. There is no monthly fee and no cloud plan needed to record or play back footage.
Section 10
Night vision, mounting & password
Night vision
Six infrared LEDs let the Nano see in complete darkness. Night vision is not automatic: switch it on with the night-vision button in the live view, or set it to run between set hours in ⚙ → Device Settings → IR-LED Config. Night vision uses extra battery, so only run it when you need it.
Mounting
Seat the camera in the clip mount, then screw the clip mount onto the swivel bracket. Loosen the thumbscrew to set the angle, then tighten it.
Stand the bracket on a shelf or desk, or fix it to a wall or car dashboard with the adhesive pad. Clean and dry the surface first.
The Nano does not have a magnetic mount.
Camera password
- Every camera ships with the default password 8888. Change it in ⚙ → Device Settings → Change Password.
- Forgot your password, or the app says the password is wrong? Reset the camera (hold the reset button for 3 seconds). The password returns to 8888, and you'll need to set the camera up again.
Sharing, time and updates
From the ⚙ menu you can also share the camera with family, set the camera's clock (Time Setting), install firmware (System Update) and restart it (Device Reboot).
Section 11
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| Can't find the BH… network | Make sure the camera is on and the blue light is flashing slowly. If the camera was set up before, reset it (hold the reset button for 3 seconds). |
| App can't find the camera | Check your phone is still joined to the BH… network. Some phones switch back to a network with internet, so turn off "auto-switch" or "smart network". Then tap the search icon in iWFCam. |
| Won't join home WiFi | Use a 2.4GHz network whose name and password use only letters and numbers. Move the camera within 10m of the router and re-enter the password carefully. |
| Lights flashing fast | The camera is in remote mode but can't reach the network. Check the router is on and in range. |
| Changed router or WiFi password | Reset the camera, then repeat Sections 4 and 5. |
| No motion alerts | Sleep mode must be off, the camera must be in remote mode, motion detection must be on in Alarm Config, and notifications for iWFCam must be allowed on your phone. |
| Too many alerts | Reposition the camera away from windows, TVs and pets, then lower the sensitivity (Motion alerts). |
| Expected a video after an alert | Motion triggers save still photos, not video. See Recording & storage for how to record video. |
| Battery runs down in hours | Sleep mode is off, or night vision is on. That is normal. Use USB power, or turn sleep mode on (Sleep mode vs motion alerts: choose one). |
| Sleep mode doesn't work | Sleep only works in remote mode, never in hotspot mode. |
| Dark picture at night | Night vision is manual. Turn it on in the live view or schedule it (Night vision, mounting & password). |
| microSD card not recognised | Format it in the app. If that fails, try another card of 32GB or less. |
| "Wrong password" | Reset the camera. The password returns to 8888. |

Care & safety
- Charge only with a 5V USB charger. Don't use damaged cables.
- For indoor use. Keep the camera away from water, rain, high humidity and direct heat.
- Don't open the camera or try to replace the built-in battery.
- Keep small parts and the adhesive pad away from young children.
- Recycle the camera and its battery responsibly. Don't put them in household waste.
Using a camera responsibly
Monitoring your own home, property or business is legal in most countries. Recording people where they reasonably expect privacy is not, and audio recording carries extra restrictions in many places. Check the rules where you live before you place the camera, and tell guests, tenants or staff where cameras are in use.
